BAHAMAS TRAVEL GUIDE

Bahamas Travel Guide - When passing through the West Indies, tourists will come across the independent English-speaking nation of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The Bahamas is an archipelago that is comprised of 700 islands and cays, (which is the name given to small islands). The Bahamas can be found in the Atlantic Ocean, east of the state of Florida and north of Cuba and the Caribbean. Some of the clearest water in the world can be viewed and enjoyed when visiting this destination.

As a tourist, you should know a few facts about the Bahamian population before visiting. Most of the population is black (85%). The official language of the area is English with a small amount of immigrants speaking Creole. The country as a whole is heavily religious, offering more places to worship per person than any other place in the world. The main religion is Christianity throughout the island.

The capital city of the Bahamas is called Nassau, which can be located on New Providence Island. There are many separate islands of interest that can be explored when a visitor decides to visit the Bahamas. On the Grand Bahama Island, there are lovely beaches and deep pine forests covering the area. Plenty of villages are available for visitation, as well as other activities such as embarking on a catamaran cruise.

When you happen upon the island of Eleuthera, you will find yourself enjoying what is referred to as part of the Out Islands. The islands received this name because they are located the farthest out in the Bahamas archipelago. There is a wealth of natural beauty to uncover on this island, as well as beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. Another island located close by is Harbour Island, which features the sweet attraction of pineapple plantations.

Located close to 100 miles southeast of Nassau, you will find Cat Island, which is considered to be the least populated island in the Bahamas. When a traveler craves for a secluded atmosphere, this is the place they will find it. The beaches are beautiful and filled with white and pink sand. Many activities can be enjoyed at this location, including diving, snorkeling and fishing.
